SDTMA Message regarding Interviews and Interrogations

I received a message from one of Escondido PD's most outstanding detectives and I would like to forward it to you.



Good Day,

My name is Jeff Udvarhelyi and I have the good fortune of working as a detective in the Family Protection and Child Exploitation Unit at the Escondido Police Department.  Early in my career, while still in patrol as a uniformed officer, I took advantage of an opportunity to attend the 3-day Interview and Interrogations course offered by Skip Rogers of the Interview and Interrogations Institute (III).  As someone who wanted to become more proficient in communicating with victims, witnesses and suspects so as to extract more information that went beyond simply getting "just the facts", I thought I would give the course a try.  The course altered the way I went about conducting interviews and enabled me to develop a more effective interrogation at the patrol level.  A few years after I attended the 3-day course and following my promotion to detective, I immediately scheduled the 5-day Interview and Interrogations course.  To say the application of the training I received has been extraordinary is an understatement.  I have utilized the techniques and tools Skip imparted with tremendous success and cannot emphasize how the course has enabled me to be proficient and effective in my position as a detective investigating some of the most egregious crimes.

No, I am not a paid spokesman, but I am a believer and practitioner of the techniques, philosophies and instruction and would encourage any patrol officer or detective to take either course, then apply the techniques in your investigations.  I believe the results will speak for themselves.

Attached is a brochure for an upcoming 3-day training in February at the Escondido Police Department followed by a 5-day training to be held in May.  Should anyone at your department have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
