SDTMA Certificates of Completion

Davina,

My Finance Department does not require a certificate of completion to process an expense report. However, the Officer submits a Trip Summary (with their expense report) which is a 6 to 8 sentence paragraph about the purpose and what they got out of the training.  Finance uses it to justify the training or business travel.

I share the same problem; either the presenter is not issuing certificates or the officer is not submitting the physical copy to the training unit to be placed in their files.  I remind my officers that their Training File are only as good as you make it to be.  So when evaluation time comes around I provide their Sergeant a list of courses the officer took (list is based on the certificates turned in) and the POST EDI list for the individual officer.

We are still working on launching the Learning Management Software Success Factor that will house the training requests, scheduled training, assigned Instructors, training videos & materials, tests & certificate of completions, roster and send out notification of training and alerts if renewal of training is needed.  Once that launches; Supervisors can run reports and check the progress of their officers.  Certificates of Completion can be uploaded  and downloaded to the system by the officer  and I verify it to make sure it is attached to the correct training request.

I know the trend has been for fewer presenters to provide certificates of completion at the end of a class.  Giving the benefit of the doubt, one would presume the paper certs are lacking because electronic ones will be provided.  I've noticed the electronic certs are not forthcoming either, and this is impacting my travel reimbursement process.  I find I often have to request certs from the presenters, even in cases where I've paid money for a class.  Does anyone have a less tedious method of dealing with this issue?  Does your agency or finance department require certs for completed classes?
