» Part 1: An Introduction to Opioid Use and Misuse Prevention – “How Did We Get Here?”
This training explores the roots of the opioid crisis, offering insights into how historical practices, pharmaceutical influences, and regulatory decisions have paved the way for today's epidemic. Through a detailed examination of opioid development, marketing strategies, and the subsequent societal impact, this training will set the foundation for understanding the magnitude of the opioid crisis. Participants will engage with case studies from regions like Florida and California, examining varied responses to early warning signs and the critical importance of awareness and prevention.

» Part 2: Best Practices in the Primary Prevention of Opioid Use and Misuse
Focusing on primary prevention measures, this training introduces participants to core strategies for curbing opioid misuse at its roots, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and evidence-based interventions. This training will provide an introduction to preventive strategies that address opioid misuse before it begins, highlighting risk factors, protective measures, and community mobilization. Learning objectives include:
· Identifying and mitigating key risk factors while bolstering protective factors against opioid misuse.
· Implementing evidence-based prevention programs and policies.
· Mobilizing community stakeholders for a collaborative prevention effort.

About the Presenters

Angela Da Re (she/her), CCPS, ICPS, has over 25 years of experience in substance use disorder prevention and health promotion. As the CEO of Delta Prevention, she leads a team primarily centered on parent and family strategies, effecting positive changes in families nationwide.
Her expertise includes Community Building, Data Collection, Health Equity, Community Crisis Care, and Non-Opioid Treatment Options. Angela is deeply dedicated to specialized groups such as rural communities, faith groups, veterans, youth, and families. She crafts strategies and interventions tailored to these groups' distinct needs and works with communities to engage hard-to-reach sectors.
Angela has been a consultant for various California communities for nearly two decades. Additionally, as a national consultant and trainer for CADCA, she contributes to key training projects, enhancing substance use disorder prevention outcomes in communities nationwide. Her unwavering commitment to promoting positive change through education and prevention underscores her influential role in the sector.

Brittney Sampson (she/her) is a Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor. She works with At-risk youth, foster youth, and youth on probation and in the Butte County Juvenile hall. Brittney is a certified Mindfulness-Based Substance Abuse Treatment (MBSAT) facilitator and currently facilitates YPMP groups with the MBSAT curriculum for youth in Shasta, Glenn, and Butte Counties and is also a Peer Mentor at YPMP Natural High Retreats. Brittney is also a certified Mental Health First Aid Specialist. Brittney also works for the Butte County Public Defender Ronald A. Reed, a Juvenile Defense Lawyer, and is currently the Legal Secretary for Butte County's Public Defender's consortium Project Upstream.

Colber Prosper (he/him) is the CEO of Prosper & Partners, an international consulting firm that specializes in professional and organizational development. He is also the author of the book No Entry: Examining the Powers that Undermine Our Full Potential.
Colber is an innovative and compassionate thought leader who has been recognized for his ability to educate youth and professionals. He is an experienced facilitator and has done extensive work on issues of social justice, health equity, organizational change, management and higher education. Colber has also provided trainings in coalition building and prevention science around the world in places such as Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Cape Town, South Africa and several more. His extensive background in strategic planning and implementation has made him an asset to various higher educational institutions, nonprofits and government agencies.
Colber identifies as Haitian African American. He was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Colber teaches multidisciplinary courses at the University of the District of Columbia and The School of Global Citizenry. Finally, Colber has a passion for people and believes that the spirit of thoughtful collaboration can enhance the lives of individuals and improve organizations.
