SANDAG has released its latest flash <https://sandag.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=94a2f8a66c9b57349ad0202e1&id=ddffbdd552&e=52c4227c76> from the Substance Abuse Monitoring (SAM) program detailing marijuana usage trends among individuals booked into San Diego County jails in 2023. These trends are considered in light of the passage of Proposition 64 in 2016, which legalized recreational marijuana use for adults 21 and older in California.

Findings show that while a majority of respondents (81%) purchase marijuana from legal recreational dispensaries, about two-thirds (67%) still obtain it from street dealers. Additional highlights from this flash include:

  *   Nearly all juvenile respondents (93%) reported vaping THC--a stark increase from the 66% reported in 2018.
  *   Over half of adult respondents (55%) reported driving after consuming marijuana. Most of them believe it impairs driving.
  *   A majority of respondents (82%) consider marijuana to be beneficial, particularly for relieving stress and anxiety.
