Dear Director King,
I am pleased to share with you the latest report from the Drug Threat Analysis Group, focusing on the analysis of fentanyl pill seizures across various HIDTA AORs from 2020 to 2023.
This report evaluates the trends in fentanyl pill seizures across the network of thirty-three HIDTAs in the United States, providing a detailed breakdown of changes observed over the specified period.
Key findings from the report include:

  * Generally low to non-existent fentanyl pill seizures across most HIDTA AORs up to 2022.
  * A noticeable seizure increase in the first quarter of 2023, followed by a decrease in the later quarters.
  * Arizona was a significant outlier in 2023, with nearly twice the seizures of the next highest region.
  * Higher prevalence of fentanyl pill seizures in the western AORs.
These insights are critical as they offer a comparative perspective that could enhance the strategies and responses of your HIDTA to the fentanyl pill issue. While this report concludes with data from the fourth quarter of 2023, it will be updated following the consolidation of the second quarter data for 2024 in July.
Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or additional comments.
Thank you for your continued support.

J. David Hamby
