SDTMA Board Elections and Holiday Luncheon

Dear STDMA Members,

I am writing to provide you with some important updates and information about our upcoming Board Elections and Holiday Luncheon. Here is what you need to know:

*         On Wednesday October 12, 2022, I called an urgent meeting of the board to officially resign my position as President of SDTMA. I will no longer be working with the San Diego Humane Law Enforcement Department. I have accepted a position with Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. My last day at SDHS is today October 14, 2022. I plan to continue my role with SDTMA until the election in November. *         Board Secretary Heather Hutchinson will sending out information to the membership about board elections at the November meeting. Per our bylaws, the Secretary and Vice President positions will be open for election for a 2-year term. In addition, the President position will be open to fill the remaining (1) year of my two-year term. Heather will provide you with information about nominations and voting for these open positions.



*         Bylaw Amendment - Earlier in the year, Webmaster Todd Murphy motioned to amend the bylaws of the association to waive the annual dues for qualifying member organizations who's duly appointed representative is nominated and elected to the Board of Directors. A proposed amendment to the bylaws requires 30 days advance notice to members and requires two-thirds vote of Regular and Associate members to pass. The intended impact of this amendment is to provide an incentive for representatives of member organizations to volunteer to fulfill the role of board members. The fiscal impact will be a reduction of revenue between $250-$300 annually.



*         Holiday Luncheon - We are planning our annual holiday luncheon to take place at the November meeting. Treasurer Marisa Messier is working on identifying menu and will send out a request for you to provide your choice of meal in advance of the meeting. We hope to have a few raffle prizes to give away also. Please contact Marissa or Heather if you have anything you would like to donate as a raffle price even if it is something small to put in raffle basket with other items.




In closing, I hope that you will truly consider running for these open board positions in order to continue the important work of our organization.
