Subject: Registration Now Open-- POST Certified Hate Crimes Training for Local Law Enforcement
All,
Updated statistics released this week reflect a disturbing increase in reports of hate crimes motivated by race, ethnicity and ancestry, and gender identity. In particular, the new numbers show a concerning rise in hate crimes committed against Black and African-Americans, already the group most often victimized, as well as increased crimes directed at members of the Asian-American Pacific Islander community. To assist local law enforcement in responding to this growing problem, the U.S. Attorney's Office, the FBI San Diego Field Office, and the San Diego County District Attorney are presenting a POST-certified webinar for local law enforcement. The webinar will feature an update on hate groups in Southern California, a primer on state and federal hate crime laws, and an overview of best investigation/documentation practices. The program, which is POST-certified for a maximum of 50 officers, will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Please see the flyer below for the registration link.
We hope to bring additional valuable training programs in the near future. Feel free to reach out to Shastity Urias (shastity.urias at usdoj.gov<mailto:shastity.urias at usdoj.gov>) with questions.
Thank you,
