Subject: UC San Diego TREDS Traffic Safety Instructor Workshop
Dear Training Manager,
UC San Diego's Training, Research and Education for Driving Safety (TREDS) develops training programs that address critical traffic safety issues.
With increased scrutiny on law enforcement and the increasing dangers faced during patrol, there are still behaviors inside of patrol vehicles that pose an unreasonable risk to the modern officer. Distraction behind the wheel is an increasing problem and can have severe consequences, resulting in injury, death, and liability for agencies and individual officers.
TREDS is hosting a free, virtual Train-the-Trainer workshop, Distraction Overload - Risk Reduction for First Responders<http://treds.ucsd.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/DO-Course-Description-final.pdf>, designed to enhance awareness of "Below 100" Tenet Number Five - Remember: Complacency Kills.

This program engages audiences through video, participant interaction, and delivery of strategies to improve safety. Workshop attendees will observe a master trainer teach the class, receive instruction on program implementation, and be provided with materials to deliver this "plug and play" presentation.
The workshop will be limited to 50 participants, so we encourage early registration. If the workshop is filled, a wait-list is available. Email treds at ucsd.edu<mailto:treds at ucsd.edu> and provide your name, contact information, and include the program name, Distraction Overload.
Workshops will be hosted online via Zoom Webinar. This is a trusted virtual platform used throughout the UC system. While Zoom encountered security concerns at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has updated their security features as well as strengthened their encryption and server protections.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Please contact TREDS with any questions at treds at ucsd.edu<mailto:treds at ucsd.edu> or (858) 534-8386.
Kind Regards,
Jill Rybar, MPH | Deputy Director
