DEA is offering the following Social Media Course for FREE:


The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the National Domestic Communication Assistance Center (NDCAC) is offering training at the DEA San Diego Division Office, September 18-20, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., regarding the use of Social Media and its exploitation to target Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTOs).



This innovative course provides criminal investigators, State & Local Officers, Intel Analysts, Diversion Investigators and other investigators involved in investigations using open source technology. This class is a fast-paced, hands-on  look at social media investigative tools geared for beginner to intermediate-level users. The course includes tools for search efficiency, operations security, evaluating social media websites, microblogs and tools for handling digital images. Students will be able to identify digital 'footprints' that users leave online and explore techniques to view websites without being identified. Investigators will improve the efficiency of their searches through publicly available (Open Source) information and social networking sites. Students learn how to search for and through social networks. Practical exercises include the use of the investigative tools demonstrated throughout the course. Students will be able to identify the unique and changing demographic populations of common social networks (Facebook, Bebo, MySpace) and be able to find uncommon social networks to retrieve information from them. Manage your research and investigations with open source tools. This course presents timesaving tools and methodologies with high quality practical exercises to strengthen investigative capabilities.



This course educates its participants in the area of Operational Security, Evaluating Websites, Advanced and People Search, Exploiting Online Images, Social Media and Mobile Apps. Participants need to have accounts set up for Gmail, Twitter and Facebook for class use only. Participants are encouraged to bring case examples to use for the class.
