COURSE CONTENT: This course is designed to improve the student's skill and knowledge of advanced techniques used to determine the sequence of events that result in a traffic collision and how to properly document the available information. The students will have the opportunity to become proficient in the following areas:
1. Photography and photogrammetry.
2. Environment examinations and collision scene measurements.
3. Techniques for preparing scale diagrams.
4. Vehicle systems and vehicle related collision factors.
5. Human factors and mechanisms of injury.
6. Mathematics, time-position analysis and freefall analysis.
7. Legal aspects of collision investigation.
OBJECTIVES: 1. To develop a relatively high degree of technical expertise in traffic collision investigation.
2. To recognize, interpret and prepare physical evidence for further use in collision reconstruction.
PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of the Intermediate Traffic Collision Investigation Course or equivalent & competency at college level algebra and trigonometry.
CERTIFICATION: This course is certified (#2400 33610-15-001) under P.O.S.T. reimbursement Plan IV. Class hours are mandated by P.O.S.T. and full participation is required for certification. Completion certificates will be awarded.
TUITION/CREDIT: Non-Reimbursable tuition /materials fee of $500 per student. Payment due first day of class. Checks made payable to Rick Godfrey, & Associates. POST Credit only
SUPPLIES: Students will need the following items: all templates and drawing equipment used during investigations,
engineer's scale, a screw type compass, flexcurve (drawing instrument), clipboard, TI-30 calculator, a digital SLR camera with
50mm equivalent lens and memory card, tripod, cable release, electronic flash unit with sync cord (hot shoe only
is not acceptable), spare batteries for flash unit, and flashlight. No more than two students will be able to share camera equipment.
DRESS: Dress is business casual. No shorts, jeans or open toed sandals or shoes. Outside training (10 hours) will be conducted
regardless of weather conditions.
