SUBJECT: APPLICATIONS FOR HUMAN RELATIONS CORE INSTRUCTOR AT THE REGIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING INSTITUTE



The San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute is accepting applications for the position of Human Relations Core Instructor. The selected Core Instructor will be responsible for coordinating regional training related to but not limited to, CLETS, Communications, Community Mobilization, Community Policing, Cultural Diversity, EEO, Ethics, Fair and Impartial Policing, Human Trafficking, Leadership, Media Sensitivity, Problem Solving, Professionalism, Racial Profiling, Resource Development, Spanish, Victim Assistance, and Victimology.



Specific duties for this position include but are not limited to:



* Coordinating all training within the subject areas for Regional Basic Academies and In-Service Training;

* Conducting training needs assessments;

* Creating, reviewing, and updating lesson plans;

* Delivering classroom instruction;

* Interviewing, training, monitoring, and scheduling adjunct instructors;

* Creating other specialized training as the need arises; and

* Completing research and writing assignments as needed.



Applicants must meet the following qualifications:



* Be recommended by his/her command;

* Non-probationary Sergeant, Detective, or Deputy Sheriff/Police Officer;

* Currently meeting performance standards; and

* Meet San Diego Community College District credential requirements as follows:

            o Bachelor's Degree (or higher) with two years related full-time occupational experience

                                 OR

            o Associate's Degree plus six years related full-time occupational experience.



Additional desired qualifications include:



* Completion of the 40-hour POST Academy Instructor Certificate Course or equivalent instructor development course(s);

* Teaching experience;

* Knowledge of Adult Learning Concepts;

* Strong organizational, communication, problem solving, and facilitation skills; and

* The ability to work in an inter-agency environment.



Qualified applicants must submit the following information:



* Application for Position. Candidates must submit their agencies equivalent of a Transfer Request form or Application for Position through their chain of command to their Department's Human Resources/Personnel Division. Deadline for application is Friday, May 1, 2015.

* Resume. The resume must be submitted to San Diego Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Greg Carpenter, Academy Director, Regional Academy. Resumes will be accepted until 1600 hours on Friday, May 1, 2015.

This position is eligible for specialty pay consistent with the terms and conditions of the Core Instructor's agency. Core Instructors work the 4-10 plan.



All candidates who fulfill all application requirements and meet the minimum qualifications will be interviewed. The interview will include a ten-minute presentation in order to assess your teaching skills. Further details will be provided to qualified applicants.
