SDTMA COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT: L.E. OFFICERS FLYING WHILE ARMED & EXTRADITION IN APRIL 2014

To All L.E. Training Coordinators:

The Training Division's In-Service Unit in conjunction with the Court Services Investigations Division is offering a
2-hour Flying While Armed and Extradition Course on April 22, 2014 from 0900-1100 hrs at Miramar College.  The course will satisfy TSA's requirement for flying while armed.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

        Investigators
        Prospective Investigators
        Detentions/Court Deputies (at the discretion of the DIU supervisor)
           Full-Time/Paid employees only

Course Description:

Upon completion of this block of instruction, the law enforcement officer will have the required information to successfully navigate the aviation domain while flying armed, and will understand the San Diego Sheriff's department's procedure for extraditions.

Performance Objective:

1.  Identify the regulations pertaining to law enforcement officers flying while armed.
2.  Demonstrate the proper procedures for the carriage of prisoners.
3.  Demonstrate the proper handling of firearms and self-defense weapons as they relate to the aircraft environment
4.  Identify proper conduct in the airport environment and on board the aircraft.
5.  Identify San Diego Sheriff's Department's procedures for extraditions.

Please make sure that your officer meets the basic requirement when making a reservation on their behalf.  About a week before the class, a more detailed information will be sent out to all those whose attendance is confirmed at the time of reservation.
