Subject: CL360 and Canine Liability for SWAT (Oct 31/Nov 1 - Oxnard)

Two additional liability classes have been scheduled in the SoCal area this coming October/November in Oxnard - "Canine Liability 360" and "Canine Liability for SWAT." These will be the last classes scheduled in California for 2013 and none are scheduled yet for 2014.

"Canine Liability 360" is scheduled for Thursday, October 31. This class is the most comprehensive one-day liability seminar now being offered. It serves as an essential phase for both K9 handlers, supervisors and SWAT team leaders (with teams that deploy with police dogs) to assist in managing their K9 program and preparing for their potential legal defense in the event of a lawsuit. This class is being presented both independently as "Canine Liability 360" on this date and also as "Part 1" of the 2-day "Canine Liability for SWAT" course (see below). It is not required to attend day two if you only want to attend this class. If you have attended a CL360 class within the past two years, it is recommended to only register for day two on November 1 to take advantage of the second half of the "SWAT" course.

"Canine Liability for SWAT" (Part 2) is scheduled for Friday, November 1. This day will include “Canine Legal Issues” presented by Los Angeles-based attorney Gene Ramirez who will examine and address legal issues related to SWAT and K9 teams. “K9 Integration/Cases Studies” by Brad Smith from Canine Tactical Operations (SKIDDS/CATS) will examine the benefits and integration process of SWAT and K9 as well as review some lessons learned from tactical incidents involving police dogs and assist in the demonstration of the RoboteX Avatar (see "Demonstration" below). The class on November 1 is being conducted independently and also as day two of the overall “Canine Liability for SWAT” course.

DEMONSTRATION: This class is being sponsored by RoboteX. We've learned and recently experienced that combining dual-deployment of a robot and a police dog during a tactical operation is a beneficial combination, reduces risk and also allows operators and handlers to view the dog work on a monitor in a safe location as an option during a search. On day two, the current plan is a "working lunch" provided by RoboteX that will allow attendees in the classroom to view and participate firsthand in the deployment of the robot in the adjacent training room during a search with a K9 team and tactical operators. Attendees can also view the operation demo from the catwalk in the training room. A demonstration of some type will also be made available on day one.

Registration for these classes is expected to fill fast and will be limited to 48 law enforcement personnel per class per day on a first-come basis. Each day requires separate registration but tuition can be paid together for both classes. Course announcements for both classes are attached. Please share this information with other persons associated with your SWAT and K9 programs, training group and/or K9 association. If you're no longer associated with your K9 program or SWAT, please forward this announcement to other K9 handlers, supervisors or team leaders who might be interested in attending and may benefit from the information being shared.

Thank you,
Bill
