The Carotid Restraint Training Institute will be presenting its next 16 hour instructor certification course on October 28-29th, 2013 in Gilroy CA.   This course is being hosted by the Gilroy Police Department in Gilroy CA.

The Carotid Restraint Training Institute is a recently developed and fully insured law enforcement training provider. CRTI promotes the safe and proper use of the law enforcement Carotid Restraint Control Hold which is a "bilateral vascular restraint" and NOT a respiratory choke hold.  This program is based on  the most recent medical and police studies on police neck restraints by Dr. Jamie Mitchell, Ph.D. (2011), Dr. John Pi, M.D. (2010),  and Dr. Christine Hall, M. D. (Force Science Center & Canadian Police Research Center-2007). This program is also fully endorsed by  Dr. Ron Martinelli, Ph.D., who is a nationally recognized Forensic Criminologist in police use-of-force. A current, thorough and effective training program is essential for proper application of bilateral vascular restraint techniques, strong litigation defense, and protection against claims of deliberate indifference in police training or policy.  Attached is an article form the Forensic Force(r) Series (The Return of the Carotid Restraint Control Hold) which will be featured in an upcoming PORAC Magazine issue.

Since January, CRTI has certified over 80 California Law Enforcement Instructors from:
